The Zine Scene

Ever wonder how magazines are created? This exciting and innovative series demystifies the art of creating a magazine. It is a hands-on workshop that will exercise and challenge the brain in many ways. This 15 week program focuses on the steps required to create a magazine or “zine” for the community of West Nipissing. With so many moving parts and versatility, this exciting process has something for everyone! From comic art and cartooning, to public art, photography and creative writing. The possibilities are endless—just use your imagination!

Gallery Life

Gallery Life is a fun 15 week series, led by artists from Expressions. Participants will explore drawing, watercolours and acrylics. The first ten weeks will expose the young artists' to each medium and enhance their artistic skills. The last five weeks will be devoted to the creation of individual pieces of art in a medium of their choice. The final piece will be displayed at Expressions! West Nipissing Art Gallery. Gallery Life is a series of workshops meant to unleash creativity. It will coach and mentor artists into understanding deadlines, time management, teamwork and focusing on details while keeping the end goal in mind - art on display at a public gallery!

PAWS for Literacy

PAWS for Literacy is designed for reluctant young readers. A fun series with Holly, a pedigree golden retriever and a Canadian Champion dog. Holly is child tested and led by her owner Gord Stone who has been a volunteer at the St-John’s Ambulance therapy dog program for six and a half years. This series redirects anxiety and the fear of reading by focusing on the audience - the non-threatening and gentle dog, Holly.
